Has Sampling become the new standard?

It seems like in most music these days, you can hear bits of music back in the day. Some say that originality is gone... what say you?

I think it's always been a standard. Look at some of the songs from the 50s there's quite a few. Beachboys copied "sampled" chuck berry. In the 80s Vanilla ice samples queen. Rinse and repeat for each generation.

I'll say something from a DJs perspective sampling at time can be really awesome. Take for example, Chic's "Good Times" at the break it makes for a really easy transition to "Rappers Delight". Sourceplay can be fun.
